Tomatoes

Hey everyone,
We could use more help taking care of the TOMATOES. Francis and Barbara donated the garden stakes and April has been using them to lift the tomatoes off of the ground. When you're over at Mastery, please swing by the tomatoes and help get them off of the ground so as to keep them from going to waste. Thanks for your help!

Youth Environmental Stewardship

This morning, a group from Pennsylvania Horticultural Society's YES program, (Youth Environmental Stewardship), helped out at Mastery Garden. To learn more about the program you can watch the video here. A whole lot of much-needed weeding was done and they even harvested some crops. Please remember that you are welcome to harvest as much as you'd like in the summer. As Landon noted in an email, we'll have to coordinate with the school once September rolls around but for now, harvest away! The YES group will be helping out every Monday morning for the next four weeks (until Aug 10). It would be great for them to share in the experience of a thriving community garden so PLEASE, when you have the time, show this garden some love!

This is from Landon's email a few months ago. Let's try to get a good compost going!

Composting - The bins are there so start composting. In general you want to add equal parts of "green" and "brown" materials. Green materials are kitchen scraps (no meat or dairy please), coffee grounds (even though they are brown), grass clippings, and vegetable matter from the garden. Brown materials are leaves, small twigs, or shredded black and white newspapers.Please be conscious of where the materials are coming from (no grass clippings from chemically treated lawns for instance).
